How do you identify repetition tactics and what cues should a player look for in order to repeat them?
Description:
USPTA Professional Brett Hobden, and Master Professionals David T. Porter, Lorenzo Beltrame and Rick Macci each provide their definition of repetition and its use in the development of a player’s game.
Tip:
During the course of a match, it is important for a player to be able to recognize and identify which tactics (a shot or/and a combination of shots) are proving successful. Once he finds something that consistently works to his advantage and creates trouble for his opponent, he should repeat the tactic over and over until the match ends or the opponent makes an adjustment and finds a way to counter the specific tactics.
In order to repeat a tactic successfully, players must first master the technical aspects of a stroke and then repeat the desired tactics during practice. By doing so, players will gain confidence and will be able to perform and repeat the specific shot or shot combinations effectively during a match.
