7 basic exercises

Description:
USPTA Professional Adam Brewer demonstrates seven basic fitness exercises players can do using a large ball or a light medicine ball. Exercises include squats, push-ups, lunges, reaches, rotations and chops.

Tip:
Strength plays a tremendous role in the game of tennis, however, a lot of people neglect its importance. Strength training should be an integral part of a tennis player’s development to improve strength, increase muscle endurance and power, decrease injury risk and enhance performance.

This week’s tip features Adam Brewer, USPTA Professional and well-known fitness trainer and speaker, demonstrating a variety of exercises that can be done with a big ball or a light medicine ball. He emphasizes different tennis movements to work muscular areas most often used in tennis, such as legs, the core, arms and shoulders. He encourages working with partners and making the exercises competitive.

Since tennis demands that a player repeats powerful actions over a long period of time, a player needs to develop muscular endurance, power and explosive movements. Players should participate in overall body strengthening programs in addition to tennis-specific activities.
