Description:
Using a large ball, USPTA Professional Adam Brewer demonstrates several types of strength exercises designed to improve a player’s fitness.

Tip:

Playing tennis involves all kinds of muscle movement in the legs, trunk, upper body and arms. Therefore we need to train all of the major muscle groups to ensure the development of overall strength and to balance the muscles. A quality strength training program will enhance a player’s power and reduce the risk of injuries.

Whether you are just starting to play tennis or have been playing for a while and your goal is to have fun while getting fit, the following routine might be one of your options.

This week’s tip features Adam Brewer, USPTA Professional and well-known fitness trainer and speaker, demonstrating a variety of exercises that can be done with a large ball or a light medicine ball. He emphasizes different movements to work muscle areas most often used in tennis, such as legs, the core, arms and shoulders. Depending on your level and goals you may use different types of medicine balls and adjust the intensity and number of repetitions and sets. Be creative and have fun!
