The volley and smash exercise
Description:
USPTA Master Professional Emilio Sanchez Vicario presents a drill that focuses on hitting a succession of different types of volleys followed by an overhead shot. As demonstrated here, the drill can be tailored for any level of player.
Tip:
This week’s tip features USPTA Master Professional Emilio Sanchez Vicario presenting a drill that he uses at his academy in Spain. The drill is performed around the service box and it consists of five balls: two topspin volleys, two regular volleys and an overhead. All volleys are hit crosscourt.
In order to execute this exercise successfully a player must use good footwork and movement to get behind the ball, set up properly, recover, maintain good balance and upper body posture while moving and hitting, and accelerate the forward swing on the swinging volleys.
Go out and try this fun drill with your players! Adjust the feeds according to their skill level.
