Baseline footwork
Description:
This video offers a summary of the footwork and recovery used on the baseline. It includes hitting balls from the center of the baseline, moving side to side, moving wide and also hitting shots while running.
Tip:
Movement and footwork are extremely important in tennis as we need to be able to move in a variety of ways. You begin with the split step and then start moving toward the ball, making the necessary adjustment steps required to intercept it. Once you’ve made contact and hit your shot, recovering quickly and efficiently will allow you to be ready for the next shot.
This week’s tip features USPTA Master Professional Lorenzo Beltrame explaining the different types of movement and footwork we encounter at the baseline. He covers how to adjust to balls that come right at you, just to the side or wide, and hitting balls on the run.
