Can you teach a game style?
Description:
Jim Parker, Master Professional, addresses the question of whether or not a particular game style can be taught to a player. As he explains, there are some suggestions that can be made in teaching a style.
Tip:
How do you help your players figure out what style of play matches them best? Is there a particular game style you would like them to adopt?
This week’s tip features USPTA Master Professional Jim Parker discussing the topic of whether a game style can be taught. He explains that each person is unique and has certain things he prefers and feels comfortable doing – whether hitting aggressive shots, keeping the ball in play with consistency, or maybe using touch shots and rushing to the net. For this reason we should try to build a game style that fits a player’s preferences and personality. At the same time, in order to be complete, a player needs to know how to adjust or shift his game to compete against different opponents, thereby expanding his own style and being able to handle all the other types.
