Improve your serve – Throw the ax
Description: Here is Master Professional Rick Macci with a tip on improving the serve motion. He uses the analogy of throwing an ax to explain the type of motion players should use when hitting a serve.
Tip:
The serve is one of the most critical shots in the game. It’s the shot that starts 50 percent of your points and having a proper technique is key in minimizing errors and becoming more successful on those serving games.
There are several common issues among players of different levels, but today we’re going to emphasize the grip and its impact on the forward swing. The grip sets the tone of the racquet’s face at contact and therefore the direction in which the ball will be sent. In this week’s tip USPTA Master Professional Rick Macci discusses the importance of the continental grip and how it affects the forward swing and pronation. Check out his analogy of throwing an ax to describe how the racquet travels up to the ball!
