Open-stance two-handed backhand

Description:
The video clip features USPTA Master Professional David T. Porter, Ed.D., explaining and demonstrating the advantages of hitting the two-handed open-stance backhand. He discusses the ability to recover easily for the next shot and get into the correct position for proper hip and body rotation.

Tip:

Today’s tennis has developed into a game based on powerful groundstrokes and weapons from the baseline. When we watch the professional players today we see very long and aggressive side-to-side baseline rallies that are extremely reliant on movement and footwork.

Because the speed of the game has increased so much we see players hitting more open-stance shots, primarily on the forehand, but also on the backhand side. Open-stance backhands are more dominant when players are pulled out wide. The open stance allows them to recover faster for the next ball, yet hit a solid, effective ball.
