Strengthening the serve – Exercise for acceleration

Description:
The video features Mark Kovacs, Ph.D., and CSCS, demonstrating an exercise called the overhead tricep extension. It involves the use of a resistance band and helps improve the tricep strength and acceleration on the serve.

Tip:

This week’s tip features USPTA Professional Mark Kovacs, Ph.D., and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, presenting an exercise that works on the acceleration stage of the serve. The exercise utilizes a resistance band and works on improving tricep strength and shoulder stability through the acceleration stage of the serve. Kovacs recommends two to three sets of eight to 15 repetitions.

These types of exercises should not be done without the supervision of a certified strength and conditioning trainer or a certified tennis-teaching professional who is knowledgeable about biomechanics and tennis-specific training.
