The four corner volley drill

Description:
This volley drill demonstrated by the World No. 1 doubles team, the Bryan Brothers, focuses on volleying from behind the service line and hitting to a target (working on accuracy). This drill can be performed defensively by hitting 50 volleys in a row or offensively by hitting straight at the opponents, making them miss.

Tip:

Volleys are critical in the game of doubles, and a key point to a successful technique on the volley is to keep it simple. Also, a player must have good balance when moving to the ball and a simple backswing with a lot of control over the racquet face at impact. The more moving parts and the bigger the swing on the volley, the harder it is to master the stroke.

This week’s tip features the No. 1 doubles team in the world, Mike and Bob Bryan, demonstrating a doubles drill they have used on a regular basis since they were young. Wayne Bryan, their father and coach, stresses the importance of mastering the volley from behind the service line. He explains that the drill can be performed as either offensive or defensive and adjusted according to the level of players.
