The UCSB volley drill
Description:
The Bryan Brothers, World No.1 doubles team, demonstrate this volley drill that emphasizes closing and sticking the volley. This drill helps improve the low and difficult volleys from the middle of the court.
Tip:
This week’s tip features USPTA Professional Wayne Bryan introducing a doubles drill that the Bryan Brothers use on a regular basis in their practices.
One of the players feeds the ball deep crosscourt to his opponent and tries to close in as quickly as he can while sticking the volleys into the chest of his opponent. The drill works on different types of volleys, starting from inside the baseline all the way to the net while moving properly and maintaining good balance. Gliding through the volleys while approaching the net is a key point in this drill.
Go out and try this drill with your players in your next practice. Have fun!
