In this video clip, Tony Talamini, a specialist in strength and conditioning, discusses the problem of overtraining high performance players. He explains two training ideas: “more is better” vs. “better is better,” leading to the conclusion that a better performance along with more rest brings better results. To test somebody for overtraining, take his/her resting heart rate, which is to be taken when they first wake up, before the feet hit the floor. If the heart rate is elevated that is the first sign that the person is being overtrained.
