Techniques for successful drop shots can be grouped into two parts: imparting backspin, and trajectory. It’s important to start the racquet head above the ball to best apply backward rotation at the contact point, and it’s equally important that the ball not travel too far after the bounce. The ball should be placed gently over the net to drop in from above, forcing extra steps out of the opponent.
