Joe Dinoffer, a USPTA Master Professional, wrote this article to address five of the great paradoxes in teaching tennis. The paradoxes discussed are: self-esteem building vs. critical thinking; creating a fun vs. a learning environment; teaching game-based vs. skill-based lessons; guided discovery vs. command-style; and student teaching and high retention vs. verbal instructions and low retention.
